About City

Prague is the Czech Republic's capital and largest city, located in the heart of Bohemia on the Vltava River. It took eleven millennia for the metropolis to achieve its current appearance. It now has a land area of 496 square kilometres and a population of around 1 240 000 people.

Prague, Czech Republic Praha is the Czech Republic's capital city. It is one of Europe's greatest cities and the primary Czech economic and cultural centre, located in the heart of the continent. The city has a rich architectural legacy that reflects both the unpredictable currents of history in Bohemia and a more than 1,000-year-old urban existence.

Prague has several physical attractions and landmarks. The Charles Bridge (Karlv most), which lies astride the Vltava River, is one of the most beautiful. The Vltava's meandering path, with its sequence of bridges and shifting perspectives, contrasts with the ever-present backdrop of the enormous castle of Hradany (Prague Castle), which dominates the city's left-bank district from behind gigantic walls situated high on a hill. The older areas' tiny alleyways and little pubs and restaurants contrast with the vast expanse of Wenceslas Square and new parks and housing constructions, while the grand 18th-century Baroque palaces have their own grace and splendour.

The various church towers create a distinctive perspective when viewed from the surrounding hills, earning Prague the nickname "city of a hundred spires." Its architectural harmony was reinforced by post-1945 planning, which conserved the city's old centre as a key landmark while closely monitoring all contemporary construction. The historic city centre was added to the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1992.
